Painter Profiles is a documentary series examining English artists. The original short films will take the viewer into the painters practice, capturing them at work and trying to understand how they see the world. Over the last few months we have worked on these 3 films with Director Orlando Gili.
Keith Grant is a landscape painter who has traveled extensively, and has confronted the elements in order to produce extraordinary, resonant images of nature, especially in the north. In recent years he has preferred to recollect his experiences in the tranquility of his studio in Norway. This film captures Keith as he explores his surroundings in southern Norway with his sketchpad, before taking them back to his studio to create a large scale painting.
Tim Vyner is a reportage artist who works on location with a pen, a sketchbook and a camera. His images capture the decisive moment in wide angled scenes, typically involving a throng of people at sporting events, whether on the street or in a stadium. In this documentary Tim is filmed whilst working on location, and at the studio, in his home town of Bath.
Jon Wealleans is a figurative painter who originally trained as an architect where he understood the arts of perspective and the study of shadows. Wealleans relished the computer free environment of the time, and today continues to work in a world without technological clutter, but in a house surrounded with a jamboree of carefully curated possessions. His work fuses bright primary colours with high brow and low brow objects, in natural still life scenes found in his 17th century London town house.
